Aikido Academy of Arizona/Headquarters of Aikido Academy of America
The Aikido Academy teaches the art of Nihon Goshin Aikido, a complete martial art and self-defense program for the entire family. It consists of throws, joint locks, nerve pressure points, blocks, strikes, weaponry, and more. The word Aikido means "the way in harmony with the spirit." Simply put -- by using an attackers weight and momentum while applying proven techniques, a smaller, weaker person can successfully defend against a larger, stronger adversary.
Are you looking for the best in self-defense instruction? Do you want to learn an authentic martial art in a positive, safe, and competition-free environment? Are you looking for mature, well-educated and experienced instructors? Do you want a professional, high-quality program for you and your family? If so, the Aikido Academy of Self-Defense is what you're looking for.
There are no tournaments or competitions in Nihon Goshin Aikido. Instead, we emphasize the physical (balance, coordination, and fitness), the mental (thoughtful positive reaction and response), and the emotional development (stress reduction, temperate behavior, and peace of mind) as well as street effectiveness. Our training methods are effective, realistic, and proven to work. They are flexible, adaptable to each situation, and simple -- anyone can do it -- no strength requied. Youth classes, Adult classes, Women's Assertiveness and Self-Protection classes, and Personal Security courses are just a few of our services. We welcome you to our website and invite you to view our program information, instructor biographies, academy locations and more.

The Children's Program Taught in special children-only classes. We teach something of value, yet fun, in a non-competitive atmosphere where all can achieve their maximum capability. Self-defense and positive self-image are emphasized. Learning self-discipline and self-control gives the students confidence to be assertive without being aggressive. That promotes self-respect. Classes give personalized attention to help the student deal with the frustration and fears of the unknown. They learn to cooperate with others, listen and speak with respect. They display much more ability to focus and concentrate on the task at hand. This particular attribute enhances the other aspects of their lives. It is not uncommon for our students to report better grades at school, less social problems with classmates, and a less contentious home life. Besides physical development, coordination, balance, and poise through exercise and basic self-defense techniques, the emphasis is on non-violence, safety, and patience. | Class Schedule: Children (6 - 12)
